How to use it

  1. 1.Write or paste your caption with the line breaks you want, including empty lines between paragraphs.
  2. 2.Look at the preview: the faded part is what sits behind "more" for most viewers.
  3. 3.Leave "Keep blank lines" switched on if Instagram has been squashing your paragraphs together.
  4. 4.Press Copy and paste the result straight into Instagram.

Why Instagram removes your line breaks

Instagram tends to collapse completely empty lines, and some keyboards add trailing spaces that make the app treat a "blank" line as part of the previous one. The result is a carefully spaced caption that arrives as one dense block — which most people scroll past.

The common fix is to put an invisible character on each empty line so the app sees a line with content and keeps it. This formatter does that for you with the Braille blank character (U+2800), which displays as empty space on every phone we know of. It also trims trailing spaces at the end of lines, which are another frequent cause of collapsed formatting.

The first 125 characters are the real caption

In the feed, Instagram shows roughly the first 125 characters of a caption (often fewer if your first line is short and followed by a line break) and hides the rest behind "more". For most viewers, that first slice is the entire caption.

Use the preview to check that the visible part does a job on its own: a specific claim, a question, a surprising detail, or a clear payoff. A caption that opens with "So today was interesting…" spends its only guaranteed line on nothing.

A caption layout that works for most posts

Line 1: the hook — the one sentence that earns the tap. Line 2–3: the value — the tip, the story beat, or the context. Final line: one call to action ("Save this for your next shoot", "Which one would you pick?"). Then hashtags, separated by a blank line so they read as a footer rather than part of the message.

Short paragraphs of one or two sentences read far better on a phone than one long block. Blank lines between them are worth the extra characters.

What this tool does not do

It does not change your words, add emoji, or rewrite anything — it only fixes spacing and shows you the cut-off point. If you want fresh caption ideas, the AI Caption Generator on this site writes several platform-matched options at once.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add line breaks to an Instagram caption?

Type your caption here with the spacing you want, keep "Keep blank lines" switched on, and press Copy. Each empty line gets an invisible character so Instagram keeps it when you paste.

Is the invisible character visible to my followers?

No. The Braille blank character (U+2800) displays as empty space. It does count as one character toward the 2,200-character limit.

How many characters show before "more" on Instagram?

About 125 in the feed, sometimes fewer if your opening line is followed by a line break. The preview fades everything after that point.

Does formatting affect reach?

Not directly. But readable captions get read, saved and commented on more, and those actions are signals Instagram uses to decide who sees a post next.
